The blepharoplasty is the indicated surgery for the treatment of the skin excess and fat bags that accumulate in the eyelids with the pass of time, providing to the patient a healthier appearance. The amount of skin and fat bags to be removed depends on a specific physical exam in each patient and the scars are usually imperceptible, following the natural lines and creases of the upper and lower eyelids. Usually those excesses become apparent at an age of 30.

The postoperative of the blepharoplasty is usually painless, and it is recommended the application of cold compresses and eye drops during the 1st week to reduce the edema and the tearing, which are common during the first few days after the surgery. The patient has to use sunglasses when there is exposure to natural light. The stitches are removed between the 5th or 7th day. In 10 days the patient can return to their normal activities and in 20 days to their physical activities. The exposure to the sun will be moderately allowed starting from the 30th day and freely after the 3rd month.

The results may be appreciated from the 7th day of postoperative, when the edema begins to regress. After 1 month the edema disappears completely and around the 2nd month the definitive result is reached. The use of the make-up can be restarted after the 1st week.

The surgery is usually performed under the effect of local anesthesia and mild sedation, and it usually lasts from 1 to 2 hours. The hospitalization period can vary between 12 and 24 hours.
