The liposuction is the surgical procedure performed to eliminate genetic fat located in specific areas of the body, which is not eliminated with diets, physical exercises or massages. It is indicated for patients who have good skin elasticity and appropriate consistence of subcutaneous cellular tissue. It is usually performed in patients 16 years and older.

The liposuction has as objective improves the corporal outline; however, it is important to remind that the liposuction should not be confused with a weigh loss method.

The liposuction begins with micro-incisions in the skin, usually in unnoticeable places, close to the areas to be lipo-sucked. Through those micro-incisions a special cannula is introduced. These cannulas are connected to a special apparatus, the Micro-air, which makes them vibrate, liquefying the fat. This liquid fat is then absorbed by a vacuum. The amount of fat to be removed depends on the need of each patient, not crossing the limit of 5% of the corporal weight. If there is the need to remove a larger volume of fat, other surgical stages can be programmed, in order to if to obtain the definitive result.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that can be done in several areas of the body. However, the best results are seen in the lateral thigh regions, internal thigh regions, underneath the chin, anterior and lateral (flanks) regions of the abdomen. One of the main advantages of the surgery is that practically leaves no scars.

To avoid pain, the patient it should maintain relative rest in the first 5 days after the surgery. Edema and bruises are common and usually disappear in the 4th week with the help of lymphatic drainage and the use of modeling wrap. The wrap should be used daily for 30 days and then in alternate schedules until the 2nd month after the surgery. Sun exposure is allowed after the disappearance of the bruises along with medical consultation. Usually physical exercises are allowed after 30 days.

The results of the liposuction begin to be noticed after 30 days, when there is considerable regression of the edema. The definitive results are reached after the 3rd month.

The anesthesia to be used depends on the areas that they be lipo-suctioned, which could vary from anesthesia peridural (more common), to the general anesthesia. The time of the surgical procedure depends on the areas the they be lipo-suctioned, varying usually from 2 to 3 hours. The stitches are usually removed between the 7th and 15th day after the surgery and hospital stay is only of 24 hours.
